If you think that your present tax accountant (if you have one) is providing you with all of the tax planning advice you need, then you should think again. The typical tax preparer, and even the average CPA, lacks the graduate tax education and/or professional experience needed to advise you of all the tax-saving strategies available to the one-person business. Most tax preparers unfortunately spend their time just recording the past and filling out tax forms. You are therefore the person who is ultimately responsible for reducing your own tax burden. Here are just a few examples of how this booklet might help save you hundreds, if not thousands, of tax dollars each year + Determine whether your business should incorporate or if your LLC should make an election to be taxed as either a C corporation or an S corporation. + Save self-employment tax (Social Security Tax, Medicare Tax and Obamacare Tax) by paying yourself a low, but reasonable, salary from your S Corporation. + Contribute up to 100% of your earnings, or your employee-spouse's earnings, to a one-person 401k plan. + Avoid making "quarterly" estimated tax payment, and incurring penalties, by having the "safe harbor" amount of taxes withheld from your yearly salary. + Consider a Section 444 fiscal year-end election to possibly defer taxes and improve personal tax planning.

Tax Strategies for the OnePerson Business 2013 2014 Edition Christopher J Inglese CPA 9781484849521 Books

This book is quite short. Roughly 40 pages of large-ish text and 40 pages of a checklist. And, in that short space it attempts to cover tax strategies for an individual doing business as either; a sole proprietor, LLC, or corporation, and including Subchapter S and PLLC variants. That seems like a lot to cover in a short space. I can mainly only comment as someone DBA with a Subchapter S election. This is a bit more of a "things to consider and talk-to-your-existing or interview-a-new accountant about" book than a full how-to with links to external resources and reference material and such. Avoiding FICA tax is a large part of what this book is about. Overall, to my knowledge, the advice seems correct. I was glad to see the tidbit in the 401k chapter about calculating the lowest salary to defer the most to the 401k; although, a chart like the one on individualk.com comparing the maximum deferral amounts for SEP, SIMPLE, and 401k plans would have been insightful. I was disappointed in the medical expenses chapter as it did not mention HSAs at all.

The book might give you a few ideas you were not previously aware of, but could and should be a whole lot more. It would be better distributed as a lower priced ebook.

Tax Strategies for the OnePerson Business 2013 2014 Edition Christopher J Inglese CPA 9781484849521 Books Reviews

This book is simple, easy to read, clear and concise, with no fluff. It met my expectations, and had the content I was looking for.
The information may be important, but the book's poor design (use of oversized Times New Roman throughout, poor use of white space, and the use of underlines (underlines!!) and ALL CAPS for headings, to name just a few) gives it an unprofessional, slapdash look. There are many typographical errors, too.
